Chelsea are giving it their all to push through a final deal to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica today.

Chelsea were always going to be the busiest club this transfer window, and it was always going to drag into the final days as well. The Stamford Bridge club are now working hard on securing a deal to sign Fernandez from Benfica, and they are prepared to stump up a large fee to do so.

Chelsea are trying to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica

The club have officials working on the deal right now, and there is some optimism that they can get it done this time around. The dialogue never closed between Chelsea and Benfica for Enzo, and although there was some annoyance on both sides, the two remained in touch over the 22-year-old. It's been simmering away in the background and although Chelsea made offers and had interest in other midfielders, I believe games were being played by both sides on this one.

If Chelsea are going back in this hard again to sign Enzo at this stage of the window, then they must have some confidence that their latest proposals will be accepted.

The stumbling block remains Rui Costa, but there is a divided opinion amongst others on the Benfica board, with many believing they should accept Chelsea's latest proposal. Chelsea are ready to pay the £106million buyout clause for Enzo, but they want to pay it in instalments. Costa has been insisting that only the triggering of the clause in full will get Enzo this window.

At this moment, negotiations continue and there is some belief that Chelsea can get it done this time around. It will be a very tense day or two now to see if they can actually pull this one off, and Chelsea fans need to get set for another short period of mixed emotions and reports. It does have a feel that a positive outcome can be reached, but let's see.

Conor Gallagher could return to Crystal Palace

As for outgoings, Chelsea will surely be looking to sell players now, potentially even this window still. There is nothing advanced for Hakim Ziyech right now, even though the interest in him has ramped up. It's certainly still one to watch this window.

If Chelsea get Enzo over the line, there are chances for Conor Gallagher to leave on loan to Crystal Palace. I understand this is a move that has been touted by Palace and Gallagher's people. But this can and would only happen if Chelsea sign a new midfielder in the next two days. Gallagher has always had a desire to stay and make it at Chelsea, but there is a belief that if another midfielder arrives at the club, then his game time will reduce a lot more. He's already mainly a player off the bench and will not be a regular starter when everyone is fit.

He also has interest from Borussia Dortmund, but that is thought to be for the summer rather than now. It's always been Palace or Chelsea for Gallagher, and if he cannot make it at Stamford Bridge, then he will look to a Palace return.

It's unclear at this stage the exact details of any potential Palace deal for Gallagher, and I've also heard that Chelsea would only really want to entertain a permanent sale for any of their players in this window. It might now be too late for that though, and they might need to agree a loan to buy deal for Gallagher, should they decide to let him go.

It's worth noting that Graham Potter really likes Gallagher and the club have been reluctant to let him go up until now. So it's certainly not set in stone.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek to stay at Stamford Bridge

Meanwhile, although there has been interest, I'm told Ruben Loftus-Cheek still has a complete desire to stay and try and make it at Chelsea. So I can't see him pushing for a late move this window and I feel he will stay.

It's going to be a long 24 hours now for Chelsea as they work hard on the Enzo deal and only that right now. Pretty much every board room member is working hard on getting this one done now, with more talks due to happen throughout today.
