Aston Villa could launch a late move for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has told GiveMeSport.

Doubts remain over the English winger's future at Elland Road and it's now being suggested Unai Emery's side could strike a late deal for him.

Aston Villa transfer news - Jack Harrison

There has been much discussion over Harrison in recent days, in no small part due to his contract situation.

The 26-year-old's deal is due to expire at the end of next season, meaning Leeds are running out of opportunities to cash in before losing the winger for free.

That would be something of an oversight on their part - Harrison offers a decent return at Premier League level with 17 goals and 13 assists in 88 appearances and should fetch a good fee in the market.

That is perhaps why clubs have tried to tempt Leeds into selling this month, predominantly Leicester City - who have tabled a £20m bid according to The Athletic.

The Daily Mail have suggested that offer has since been rebuffed, after previously reporting that Leeds had put a £35m price-tag in place to ward off potential suitors.

But with just over 24 hours of the transfer window yet to go, it remains to be seen whether Harrison will still be a Leeds United player come Wednesday morning.

What has Alex Crook said about Jack Harrison and Aston Villa?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Crook suggested that Aston Villa could emerge as late contenders for Harrison's signature.

It's no secret that Villa are on the lookout for a wide player this month, with Arnaut Danjuma (now of Tottenham) and Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech being mooted as potential additions throughout the window.

Harrison represents a sensible alternative and Crook told GMS when asked about possible suitors: "Aston Villa, I was told to keep an eye on. They've shown in past windows that they're very good at keeping their business quiet, so it wouldn't surprise me if they pulled a rabbit out of the hat in the final day of the January window."

Why do Aston Villa want to sign a winger?

Steven Gerrard seemed almost obsessed with central players during his time at Villa Park. Philippe Coutinho, Emi Buendia and Danny Ings were all brought in, while Jacob Ramsey was integrated into the starting XI.

The only wide man Gerrard added to Villa's ranks was Leon Bailey, but creating a functional team with just a single winger was virtually impossible - probably one of the factors behind the Liverpool legend eventually losing his job.

With Bailey starting to cement himself as a part of Emery's first team, it makes sense that the new Villa boss would want another wide man to operate on the opposite flank.

Harrison represents a relatively risk-free addition if the money makes sense, but £35m does seem on the rich side considering his contract situation.
