Lance Stroll sounds as though he is looking forward to driving alongside Fernando Alonso this year at Aston Martin, and the challenge that will bring.

Alonso's illustrious F1 career continues in 2023 with him joining a new team in the form of Aston Martin.

The news, when announced last summer, caused a fair bit of shock but it's clear that the Spaniard was impressed with the ambition the team has for winning in the coming years, and he evidently wants to be a part of that.

Few can argue against the suggestion that he is still one of the best drivers on the grid, too, and so it's going to be fascinating seeing what he can produce for Aston this coming season.

That said, on the other side of the garage is Lance Stroll, remaining with Aston for another year, and he will be looking to push the team on just as much as the Spaniard in the quest for progress and positive results.

Stroll has been a part of the team for a while, now, and is clearly well aware of the challenge he faces in having someone like Alonso as a team-mate, but he does not sound overawed by the prospect:

"It's no fun when you're just kind of driving around with no one pushing you," Stroll said to Motorsport.com.

"I think what you want in a teammate is a guy that is at the top of his game. It means that when you get more out of it than him, you're really at the top of your game, and vice versa.

"When you're not getting the most out of it, it's not that you can just sit back and relax. You've got to try and work harder.

"I think that's what you want from the team at the end of the day, and also for them to know if you guys are pushing each other and always getting everything out of the car and the package."

The Canadian is certainly going to see Alonso pushing the team and himself from the get-go and hopefully that will translate into positive results on the track in 2023.
