Brighton & Hove Albion's stance is that they are not going to sell Moises Caicedo to Arsenal, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

While Jones says the Gunners could yet test that resolve, as things stand, it looks like the 21-year-old will be remaining at the Amex Stadium.

Arsenal transfer news - Moises Caicedo

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently told GMS that Caicedo has had his head turned by Arsenal and Chelsea.

It comes after both clubs made bids for the Ecuadorian. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the former made a £70m offer for him last week.

Regarding the latter, a report from The Athletic states that they had a £55m bid rejected by Brighton.

Arsenal have since turned to their London rivals to solve their midfield problem, agreeing a £12m deal with Chelsea for Jorginho.

What has Dean Jones said about Moises Caicedo and Arsenal?

Jones says Brighton are still refusing to sell Caicedo.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "I'm told that Brighton's stance is that they are now not going to sell Caicedo, no matter what.

"If that's the case, then a huge blow to the player's aspirations but helps explain the escalation of Arsenal's move for Jorginho. That resolve might be tested later in the day, but it seems a pretty firm decision they've made."

Is Jorginho a good alternative to Moises Caicedo?

Arsenal could do a lot worse, especially this late in the transfer window. They are picking up a high-quality midfielder for a really low price.

At 31, Jorginho is not getting any younger; however, the Italy international can come in and make an impact now and that is arguably what Arsenal need amid their pursuit of the Premier League title.

He obviously has a lot of experience in this division, making over 140 appearances in total, as per Transfermarkt.

Over the last year, Jorginho has also ranked in the 94th percentile for passes attempted and the 91st for progressive passes among his positional peers (via FBref).

For a top side, one looking to play the ball out of defence and start attacks from the back, Jorginho is the perfect midfielder.

Maybe he might just be a short-term fix, but if he helps Arsenal to win the title, then the club's supporters are not going to care. And his arrival does not have to mean the end of their pursuit of Caicedo, which could easily start back up again in the next transfer window.
