Figures around Arsenal are excited about the imminent arrival of Jorginho from Chelsea and are backing him to play a huge role in their title charge, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Gunners turned to the 31-year-old after failing to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Arsenal transfer news - Jorginho

Journalist Simon Phillips told GMS on Tuesday morning that Arsenal were working on bringing Jorginho to the Emirates in a £12m deal.

Caicedo appeared to be the north London club's primary midfield target for January, but they were unable to sign him in the end.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal had two bids for the Ecuadorian turned down, the second being worth £70m.

With Jorginho arriving, though, Mikel Arteta has still at least been able to strengthen his midfield.

What has Dean Jones said about Jorginho and Arsenal?

Jones has told GMS that there is a belief at Arsenal that Jorginho could be huge in their bid to win the Premier League title.

Speaking about the north London outfit and the Italy international, Jones said: "It seems they have exhausted most other options at this stage and, to be honest, to end it on the capture of Jorginho would seem a pretty decent place. Figures around Arsenal believe his nous for a title challenge is going to be ideal."

Can Jorginho help Arsenal to win the title?

He is the sort of signing that will definitely give Arteta's side a boost in the race for the Premier League crown.

Jorginho obviously knows this division very well and has won two of the biggest prizes in football, the Champions League and European Championship.

As per FBref, the former Napoli man has ranked in the 88th percentile for pass completion and the 91st for progressive passes among midfielders over the last year. Arsenal fans can be confident that he is going to come in and dictate games.

"He knows what to do in possession, he can imagine what is going to happen one or two passes ahead and he knows where to help out in short distances and longer distances," Jorginho's old Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told the Blues' official club website back in 2021.

"He knows when to switch the play and not to switch the play. He has a good sense of rhythm. He organises the environment around him and that allows him to show his true abilities in controlling the rhythm of a game."

At 31 years of age and clearly not seen as indispensable to Chelsea, some may have their doubts. But the above shows Jorginho could end up being a really shrewd addition at the Emirates.
