Chelsea have a private jet plane scheduled to fly target Enzo Fernandez to London from Lisbon this evening, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

Fernandez has been subject to much interest from Chelsea throughout the January window and Phillips is confident the Blues will sign the midfielder before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Chelsea transfer news - Enzo Fernandez

In the latest twist of this month's seemingly never-ending transfer saga, Fernandez to Chelsea appears to be back on.

Or at least that's the feeling coming out of Chelsea, with The Athletic reporting they are now increasingly confident of landing Fernandez tonight.

As per the report, Chelsea have "heightened optimism" around signing Fernandez before this evening's cut-off point, having chased the midfielder throughout the January window.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GMS this evening that Fernandez was already undergoing a medical, ahead of his proposed deadline day move.

Now, as the clock edges ever closer to the 11pm deadline, fresh news surrounding Fernandez's future has emerged.

What has Simon Phillips said about Fernandez's move to Chelsea and his flight to London?

Having persisted with their attempts to sign Fernandez from Benfica, despite numerous pushbacks, Phillips is now confident a deal for the midfielder will be completed today.

In an interview with GMS, Phillips revealed the details surrounding Enzo's flight to London.

"Enzo Fernandez has been given permission to have a medical and he’s having that at the moment whilst Chelsea tie up the last details of the deal," Phillips told GMS.

"There is optimism they can do that and get an agreement very soon.

"The fact that Enzo has been allowed to do his medical probably tells you a lot about where this deal is heading now.

"They have the jet plane scheduled to go back to London from Lisbon, which they plan to have Enzo on. That was scheduled for 6pm, but that’s now been pushed back to 7:10pm.”

Why are Chelsea targeting Fernandez's signature?

According to Sky Sports, the deal to bring Fernandez to Chelsea is likely to set a new British transfer fee record, eclipsing the £100 million Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in the 2021 summer window.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier today the transfer could cost Chelsea a whopping £106 million.

A hefty fee no doubt, but Chelsea see Fernandez as an integral piece in their multi-million-pound rebuild, with the 22-year-old expected to be given the keys to their midfield.

Midfield was earmarked as a priority position for Chelsea at the beginning of the window and despite splashing the cash elsewhere, the Blues have remained keen on securing the services of number-one target Fernandez.
