Liverpool could look to lure Juventus winger Federico Chiesa to Anfield during the summer transfer window, journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested to GiveMeSport.

Jürgen Klopp is looking towards a big summer ahead with plenty of transfer business expected at the club.

Liverpool transfer news – Federico Chiesa

According to reports in Italy, Liverpool are considering selling Mohamed Salah and replacing him with Chiesa, with the Egypt international struggling to hit the heights of recent seasons during the current campaign.

Salah will have turned 31 by the time the 2023/24 Premier League season kicks off, with the Reds weighing up the prospect of refreshing their front line with younger alternatives.

Klopp has already welcomed PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo during the January transfer window in a deal worth almost £44m, which looks set to be the start of a rebuilding process at Anfield.

Transfer insider Dean Jones had suggested to GiveMeSport during the last month that Liverpool always had the potential to make one more surprise signing before the closure of the January transfer window, but no moves ever came to fruition for the Merseyside outfit.

And O’Rourke believes that a switch for Chiesa could happen in the summer, though other Premier League sides are likely to be monitoring the situation of the Juventus star.

What has O’Rourke said about Liverpool and Chiesa?

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “Maybe in the summer, he might have the likes of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs looking at him and seeing if they can capitalise on Juventus’ financial situation.”

Would Chiesa be a good signing for Liverpool?

Chiesa – who has previously been described as a “wizard” by podcaster Roger Bennett – would likely be an excellent signing for Liverpool, with the 25-year-old enjoying an impressive spell with Juventus.

The £54m signing has made 69 appearances for the Old Lady, hitting the back of the net 19 times whilst providing 16 assists, showing that he is capable of being a threat in front of goal regularly.

However, the 40-cap Italy international has struggled for playing time this campaign having recently recovered from a cruciate ligament rupture, meaning that he has only been able to earn an average WhoScored rating of 6.43 for his 208 minutes worth of action in Serie A.

Therefore, Klopp will be hoping that the Euro 2020 winner will be able to regain his match sharpness during the second half of the season as he looks for a long-term replacement for the ever-trusted Salah in his front line.
