Arsenal will 'rekindle' their interest in Moises Caicedo as the Brighton & Hove Albion star made it clear he 'would be keen to move' to the Emirates Stadium, journalist Pete O'Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

Jorginho proved to be the only addition to Mikel Arteta's squad on deadline day as he joined the Gunners in a £12million switch from London rivals Chelsea.

Arsenal transfer news - Moises Caicedo

According to The Athletic, Arsenal may find it difficult to sign Caicedo in the summer because their public pursuit has not gone down well at Brighton.

The report suggests the south coast club's respect for the Gunners has soured after they persisted in their bid to lure the central midfielder to the Emirates Stadium last month, weakening their position when it comes to striking a deal further down the line.

Having already seen Chelsea fail to land Caicedo after lodging a £55million proposal, Arsenal were left frustrated when a £60million offer was snubbed.

The Ecuador international took to social media to confirm he wanted to seal his Brighton exit, but his current employers held firm and rejected an improved £70million bid from the Gunners.

Respected journalist Jacque Talbot previously told GiveMeSport that Caicedo travelled to London as he looked to force through a move on deadline day, but his current employers' stance remained unchanged and they set an £80million price tag.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Caicedo?

O'Rourke understands Caicedo was keen to leave Brighton after he was the subject of big-money bids from Arsenal and Chelsea.

The journalist feels the Gunners' admiration will refuse to go away and they are set to return to the negotiating table when the transfer window reopens.

O'Rourke told GiveMeSport: "Moises Caicedo, obviously, admitted in a social media post that he would be keen to move on from Brighton and he wanted the opportunity to join a top club like Arsenal or Chelsea.

"I'm sure Arsenal's interest will remain and it's a deal that they will try to rekindle in the summer."

Should Arsenal look to sign Caicedo in the summer?

According to FBref, Caicedo has averaged more tackles, blocks and interceptions per 90 minutes than Arsenal duo Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka this season.

That emphasises the 21-year-old, who has made 21 appearances since the campaign got underway, would make the north Londoners even more difficult for opponents to break down.

WhoScored have handed Caicedo an average Premier League match rating of 6.96, a figure which is only bettered by three Brighton teammates.

But it will not be easy for Arsenal to get a deal over the line in the summer as the South American still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his £15,000-per-week contract.

Gunners sporting director Edu may be left with little choice but to meet Brighton's financial demands for Caicedo, who headed to the Amex Stadium in a £4.5million deal from Independiente del Valle in 2021.
