Everton may still be 'looking' to the free agent market to carry out transfer business, journalist Pete O'Rourke has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The Toffees did not make a single signing in January, with Sean Dyche set to continue with his current roster unless any additions can be brought in post-window.

Everton transfer news

Despite being yet to add to the squad in mid-season, the Daily Mail has revealed that unattached striker Andre Ayew is on his way to the United Kingdom in the next 24 hours, with the Toffees hoping to seal a short-term deal for his services.

It is said that there are 'no guarantees' that the 33-year-old will sign for Everton due to potential rival interest. However, he has already held 'preliminary' discussions with sporting director Kevin Thelwell over a transfer to Goodison Park.

Farhad Moshiri promised in a recent interview that Everton would land a forward player during the window and now may deliver on that vow, even if this prospective incoming is a tad later than expected.

Ayew was most recently on the books of Qatari Stars League side Al-Sadd, though is believed to have cut short his lucrative contract to explore opportunities to return to European football.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Everton's transfer activity?

Journalist O'Rourke believes that free agent players will be offering their services to Everton to try and land a move to Goodison Park.

O'Rourke told GMS: "I'm sure any free agent who is looking to find a club will probably be making their services available to Everton, to say that they're willing to join the club to try and help them in the relegation fight as well.

"We've seen it before, some free agents who become available and they can then be a key signing for a club."

What other free agents are on the market that Everton could sign?

Interestingly, there are several free agents on the market just now that Everton could feasibly try and add to their squad outside of the window.

Transfermarkt shows that high-profile names such as former Real Madrid ace Isco, Croatia stalwart Sime Vrsaljko, Russia forward Artem Dzyuba and ex-Ajax man Zakaria Labyad are all without a club at the moment.

Of course, this is all purely speculation for all intents and purposes. However, it is maybe some food for thought for Everton, considering there is still a decent calibre of players available for nothing that could add some fresh ideas at Goodison Park.

While Ayew looks like he might be one free agent that may be handed a chance to join Everton, you do wonder if anyone else will follow, given their lack of additions during the month of January.
