There is nothing to suggest that Chelsea would be willing to listen to offers for Ben Chilwell in the summer, journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport.

Manchester City are said to be interested in the left-back after allowing Joao Cancelo to join Bayern Munich, but Phillips says he has not heard anything about a potential Stamford Bridge exit.

Chelsea transfer news - Ben Chilwell

According to The Times, City do not envision Cancelo returning to the Etihad.

As a result, the outlet states that they are now interested in signing Chilwell, who has been a target for the Manchester club in the past.

Back in 2020, Sky Sports reported that City were keen on the 26-year-old before he left Leicester City for Chelsea.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko also no longer at the Etihad, ultimately, it is a position that could do with being strengthened.

What has Simon Phillips said about Ben Chilwell and Chelsea?

Phillips says he has not heard anything that suggests Chelsea would be open to parting ways with Chilwell in the next transfer window.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "It will be interesting to see if City do come in for Chilwell and what Chelsea say to them. But, at this moment in time, I'm hearing nothing to suggest that Chelsea will entertain any offers for Chilwell in the summer."

Should Chelsea sell Ben Chilwell?

No, and especially not to City if they are planning to compete with the current Premier League champions next season.

Chilwell has had his injury problems, but when he is fit, he is easily one of the best left-backs in the country.

"He's shown quality not just on the ball, but one-on-one he can defend and he likes to defend," former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole said (via Evening Standard) prior to Chilwell's move to the Blues.

"I think he's quality and I've heard he's a Chelsea fan, too, so I would like to see him here. He's got the quality. For sure, he's good enough."

Where Chilwell has really been effective, though, is probably going forward. Since joining Chelsea from Leicester in a £45m deal, as reported by BBC Sport, the England international has come up with 18 goal contributions in 68 appearances, according to Transfermarkt. It is quite a good return for a defender.

All in all, Chelsea and Graham Potter should not be looking to sell Chilwell this summer and definitely not to one of their rivals.
