The January transfer window was full of eye-openers, but there was nothing more shocking than Chelsea’s January frenzy, spending in excess of £300 million.

Despite a rocky streak under the new boss, Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a whopping £105 million, breaking the British transfer record previously held by Jack Grealish.

Fernandez was one of eight players who made the move to Chelsea during the recent transfer window.

Who will Chelsea look to sell in the summer?

The Guardian reports that in exchange for the high price tag incomings, some familiar faces may be making their shock departure in the summer in a bid to clear out underperforming first-team players.

Chelsea’s title challenge this season has been non-existent, currently residing in 10th place. They have not won the Premier League since the 2016/17 season, but finished within the top five for the past six seasons; this race could look very different for the Blues, alluding to the ruthless plan to cull the floundering players in the coming summer.

The detailed report states that owner Todd Boehly is adamant that the team must improve in order to climb up the ranks from their current mid-table spot.

The ruthless process of revamping the team kickstarted with Jorginho leaving for Arsenal, whilst the deal to send Hakim Ziyech to Paris Saint-Germain fell through.

Other players finding their names on the chopping block include Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, who is valued at 40m as per transfermarkt, 35m-rated Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It is unlikely Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi will retain their places in the team when they return from their respective loans, while Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in Ben Chilwell, increasing his likelihood of departing the club.

Tides began to change since the introduction of the Boehly-led consortium.

During Chelsea’s revamp, they made 16 permanent signings, including Benoit Badiashile, snapping up Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal’s clutches and two loan signings while replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter.
