Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane’s “priority” is to renew his contract with the Lilywhites, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The 29-year-old has less than 18 months to run on his £200,000 per-week contract with Antonio Conte’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham contract news – Harry Kane

Kane has already indicated to the Evening Standard that there could be talks between the club and Spurs’ record goalscorer over an extension to his current deal, “in the coming months.”

The Lilywhites talisman said: “I’m sure they’ll be conversations over the coming months but to be honest I’m just focused on this season and doing my best for the team. There’s still a lot to play for, trying to get in the Champions League, we have the FA Cup and the Champions League still to try to win. My focus is on that.”

However, journalist Paul Brown has recently told GiveMeSport that the north London outfit’s hope of Kane committing his future to the club is not growing, amid speculation that Manchester United could be preparing a summer bid for England’s joint-record goalscorer.

But Jacobs believes that the Tottenham academy product’s priority has always been to sign a new deal with Spurs, but it depends on which direction the club seems to be heading.

What has Jacobs said about Tottenham and Kane?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “A name that everyone links with Manchester United is Harry Kane which is premature because Kane’s priority is still to try and renew at Spurs.

“We won't know what materialises until a bit later in the season, depending on the direction that project is travelling in. But if Kane has a choice, it will be that Tottenham qualify for the Champions League and he renews with Tottenham.

“If the project moves in another direction, there will be a window of opportunity.”

How important is Kane to Tottenham?

Kane is without a doubt Conte’s most important player and losing him in the summer would be a huge setback to Tottenham’s future aspirations.

The 80-cap England international has hit the back of the net 17 times and provided one assist in 22 Premier League appearances for Spurs this season, indicating that he is the side’s main attacking outlet.

Unsurprisingly, the Three Lions captain, who ranks third in the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring charts, has earned himself a WhoScored rating of 7.50 for his performances in the top flight this campaign, ranking him as Conte’s best-performing player, indicating how vital his presence is to the side.

Therefore, it would be a huge boost to Tottenham if Kane was to commit his long-term future to Spurs by signing a contract extension but the club will have to prove that they are heading for an exciting new future if he is to remain in north London.
