Tennis legend Roger Federer has relinquished his crown as Switzerland's most-followed sportsperson.

After years of dominating Instagram with his loyal following, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has been forced to make room for women's football star Alisha Lehmann.

The Swiss athletes' follower counts have been in competition with each other for a while, and now Lehmann has finally edged into the top spot.

How many followers does Alisha Lehmann have?

It's no secret that the 24-year-old Aston Villa ace is a leading name in women's football when it comes to social media presence.

She has become extremely popular over the last few years and her Instagram following in particular has soared.

Lehmann now boasts a staggering 11.4 million followers, overtaking Federer's 11.2 million and establishing herself as the platform's most popular Swiss athlete.

Her three pinned Instagram posts include a teaser for her 2023 calendar, footage of her goal against Manchester City at the start of the Women's Super League season, and a clip of her scoring top bins live on Soccer AM.

These posts have more than 1.6 million likes combined and plenty of comments always flood in whenever she uploads a new image or video.

Lehmann also gained some extra spotlight during her relationship with fellow Aston Villa player Douglas Luiz. However, the two announced their split last November after almost a year of dating.

Lehmann and Federer lead the way by some margin when it comes to the social presence of Swiss sports stars.

Arsenal's Granit Xhaka has 2.9 million Instagram followers and tennis star Stan Wawrinka has 1.2 million.

Who has Alisha Lehmann played for?

Lehmann currently represents Aston Villa, but she has previously enjoyed stints at other WSL clubs.

Before her move to England in 2018, the forward played for BSC Young Boys Frauen. She then joined West Ham United for three years and spent a season on loan with Everton before signing for Villa in 2021.
