Chelsea will look to put Romelu Lukaku "on the market immediately" after his return from Inter Milan, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti told GIVEMESPORT.

The Belgian international rejoined Inter on loan in the summer and Galetti insists Lukaku doesn't have a future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea transfer news - Romelu Lukaku

Just one year after returning to Chelsea for an at-the-time club-record £97.5 million fee, Lukaku ditched the Blues for a second time in the summer transfer window to rejoin Italian giants Inter (BBC Sport).

According to the BBC Sport report, Inter agreed to pay a loan fee worth £6.9 million for Lukaku, with the player himself saying yes to a pay cut.

A dizzying transfer merry-go-round that has seen Lukaku spend the previous three campaigns alternating between Inter and Chelsea, there are now suggestions the striker could be plying his trade at another new club next season.

That's if the Serie A giants decide not to exercise a deal that would keep Lukaku at the club for next season, with The Evening Standard reporting it's likely Inter will back out of the "soft agreement".

It comes amid claims in the same Evening Standard report that Chelsea are planning to hold a fire sale in the summer, as they look to sell a number of their fringe players.

Lukaku is one name mooted with a potential Stamford Bridge exit, should he return to SW6 at the end of the campaign.

What has Rudy Galetti said about Lukaku's future at Chelsea?

Speaking in an interview with GMS about Lukaku's future, Galetti suggested it's unlikely the Belgian will reignite his Chelsea career after the Inter loan.

On Lukaku, Galetti claimed: "In case the Nerazzurri decide to send Lukaku back to London, in all likelihood, Chelsea will put him on the market immediately.

"Chelsea will be looking for some new clubs interested to sell him to.

"In any case, during the next few weeks and also on the basis of his performances on the pitch, Lukaku’s future at Inter will be more defined.”

How has Lukaku been performing for Inter?

In truth, quite poorly. Lukaku - who pockets £350,000 a week - has managed just one 90-minute appearance for Inter since returning to the club, having made a total of 10 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Enduring a torrid campaign blighted by a recurring hamstring injury, it hasn't been the homecoming Lukaku would've dreamt of.

The striker netted 24 goals in 36 league matches for Inter in the 2020/21 campaign, with Lukaku's goals helping to fire the Nerazzurri to their first Scuedtto in over 10 years.

Lukaku will now need to prove his worth in the second half of the season, should he wish to stick around at San Siro for one more campaign at least, or risk yet more uncertainty with another transfer elsewhere.
