Edge v Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match was scrapped from the WWE Royal Rumble last weekend.

According to reports, the match was planned for the show, but WWE pulled the plug and instead had both men in the Royal Rumble match.

As for why that happened, a new report has revealed the reason, and a lot of it is down to Edge's hectic schedule.

Why didn't Edge v Finn Balor happen at the Royal Rumble?

Back in late 2022, it was reported that WWE was going to have Edge and Balor compete in a Hell in a Cell match at the Royal Rumble.

However, the match didn't end up happening, as noted, and the Wrestling Observer has now revealed that it was pulled due to Edge's busy schedule, via WrestleTalk.

Brood Edge vs. Demon Balor Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble didn’t happen is because Edge was filming a television show until this past week and thus couldn’t do the WWE television to build up the match.

The report, which you can see above, notes that Edge was busy filming a show right up until the final week of January, so wouldn't have been able to appear on Raw to build to his match with Balor.

As such, Chief Content Officer Triple H made the decision to pull the match and postpone it, likely until WrestleMania 39, with both men instead competing in the men's Rumble match that opened the show.

When will Edge v Finn Balor happen?

At the time of writing, there's no exact word on when the big blowoff match between Balor and Edge will take place.

However, the feud between the two looks set to continue, with a confrontation in the Royal Rumble match and two days later on Raw taking place between Edge and his former Judgement Day faction.

The working theory is that the pair may do battle at WrestleMania 39, one year on from Edge forming Judgement Day, but that is far from certain and essentially only speculation at this stage.

However, some have theorised that a match between the two former World Champions could instead go down at Elimination Chamber next month, freeing both up for fresh WrestleMania matches.
