Emiliano Martinez's save on Randal Kolo Muani in the 2022 World Cup final may very well be the biggest in football history.

Sure, it wasn't the greatest, that belongs to Gordon Banks' heroics versus Pele in 1970, but in terms of importance there are few - if any - which can lay claim to being an equal.

In the final minute of stoppage-time in extra-time, with the scores deadlocked at 3-3, Martinez spread himself in epic fashion to deny the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

Kolo Muani looked destined to score and secure back-to-back World Cups for France, but his Argentinian adversary denied him a Mario Gotze-esque moment in Qatar.

Martinez's epic save paved the way for Lionel Messi to complete football by lifting it's biggest prize and the Paris Saint-Germain superstar will be eternally grateful to his international colleague.

But in the moment itself, Messi did not show an iota of panic, gratitude or emotion.

New footage has emerged on social media which focuses on the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner as the now iconic passage played out in real-time.

Messi was stationed on the halfway line as Kolo Muani was put through on goal by a superb lofted pass from Ibrahima Konate.

And despite the fact he must've seen his footballing dreams flash before his eyes, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner barely moved a muscle.

He remained eerily focused, which then allowed him to orchestrate an almost match-winning counterattack for Argentina.

What has Kolo Muani said about Martinez's save?

The in-form Frankfurt striker has recently opened up about his lost duel with Martinez, revealing that he still watches the moment on a regular basis.

"I still watch it, I know it off by heart," Kolo Muani told beIN Sports, per Goal. "In my head, I said to myself: 'Randal, you have to shoot now'. I tried to shoot towards the near post but the goalkeeper made a very good save. But there were other options.

"I could have lobbed him, or found Kylian Mbappe [to the left]. But in the moment, I didn't see him. It's only when you watch back that you discover the other options. It's too late. It still sticks in my throat and it'll be there for life."

Kolo Muani certainly hasn't let the moment hinder his club form, though. In 17 Bundesliga games this season, he's scored seven goals and contributed 10 assists.

So don't worry too much, Randal, there will likely be plenty more chances for redemption on the World Cup stage.
