Casemiro was shown a straight red card in Manchester United's clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilian has been an integral figure for United since making the move to the club last summer.

He was in the starting lineup for the match at Old Trafford.

But he received the first straight red card of his career in the 70th minute.

A scuffle between the two sides broke out when Jeffrey Schlupp shoved Antony into the advertising hoardings.

Casemiro came rushing across to confront Schlupp.

He then pulled Hughes out of the crowd and put his hands on the Palace midfielder's neck.

Nothing was given at the time but, after referee Andre Mariner consulted with the pitchside monitor, Casemiro was sent off.

Will Hughes angers Man Utd supporters after Casemiro is sent off

Hughes did not appear to take exception to Casemiro's actions.

He did not complain to the referee and fan footage saw him hugging Casemiro following their tussle.

But Hughes, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, couldn't resist goading United fans after the Brazilian had been shown a red card.

Hughes turned around to the United supporters and cupped his ear with his hand.

He then did the 'six times' gesture with his hands - symbolising Liverpool's six Champions League victories.

United supporters weren't too happy. View the moment below...

Will Hughes: Steven Gerrard was my favourite player

Hughes spoke of his admiration for Steven Gerrard and Liverpool back in 2016.

“Steven Gerrard, with the way he played, the way he went about his game and his demeanour was my favourite player growing up and I followed him quite closely,” Hughes said, per the Daily Express.

“I used to go quite a bit to watch them when I was younger and an academy player but obviously it’s a lot more difficult nowadays.

“That was Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres and Gerrard in their prime. It wasn’t a bad team.

“Why Liverpool? I couldn’t really tell you. They were just the team I followed growing up so you can’t say I was a glory supporter because they weren’t very successful in that period.

“I just had an admiration for them and followed them ever since.”
