Erling Haaland may have scored 25 Premier League goals this season but he was far from his best against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

In fact, there’s a case to say it was the Norwegian’s worst game in a City shirt so far, considering he failed to have a single touch in the opposition box all game.

Harry Kane’s record-breaking goal proved to be the difference in the end as Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to score away at Spurs for the fifth successive game.

While it seems crazy to suggest that the player who is breaking records galore is having a negative impact on the Premier League champions, their recent performances indicate that something is up.

Haaland is no doubt the focal point of their attack and when he doesn’t fire on all cylinders, the team ostensibly struggle.

Haaland’s shocking stats vs Spurs

At one stage this season, it appeared as though Haaland was destined for a goal in every game.

Yet, it was a day to forget for the 22-year-old against Spurs, as his statistics prove.

For the first time in his Premier League career, Haaland failed to score or have a shot all match – hardly what you expect from a world-class striker.

According to data from FotMob, the forward only had 27 touches across 90 minutes, completed one pass into the final third and created just a single chance.

To compound matters, Kane had a superb game at the opposite end – netting his 17th Premier League goal of the season.

Haaland’s woeful highlights vs Tottenham

A video has arisen of Haaland’s full highlights versus Spurs and it’s fair to say he looks a far cry from the player who first joined the club.

Haaland is not necessarily solely to blame and his teammates also deserve criticism for failing to supply the Norwegian, yet it’s evident that teams are starting to work out the way he plays.

Spurs expertly limited the supply to Haaland and enjoyed a relatively comfortable afternoon as a result.

Is Haaland the right fit for Man City?

On paper, Haaland has been by far the best player in the league this season, yet there remain concerns regarding whether he makes Man City better.

In recent years, City have shared the goals all around the pitch, with a number of players finding the back of the net.

Now though, City are so intent on feeding Haaland, that the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez are seemingly suffering as a result.

Guardiola has also been unwavering in his support for Haaland and refused to take him off against Spurs, even when things were clearly not working.

There’s no denying the 22-year-old is one of the world’s best forwards but are City better off without him? Perhaps.
