Leeds United are 'extremely impressed' by Carlos Corberan and the Elland Road hierarchy could make a move for the West Bromwich Albion boss, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Whites are assessing their options after Jesse Marsch was sacked less than 24 hours on from a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Leeds manager news - Carlos Corberan

According to the Daily Mail, Corberan has emerged as a candidate to be named as Marsch's successor because the club rate him highly.

The report suggests the 39-year-old was admired for his work as an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa during his Elland Road reign and proved himself as a manager by taking Huddersfield Town to the Championship play-offs.

It is understood that Leeds are looking to make a swift appointment and are already well on their way towards unveiling Marsch's replacement.

But West Brom are keen to keep Corberan out of the Whites' clutches and are set to hold talks as they aim to tie him down to a new contract at the Hawthorns.

The Spaniard was only appointed as the Baggies' head coach in October and, since then, he has led his current employers into the Championship play-off places.

What has Dean Jones said about Corberan?

Jones believes there is a high probability that Leeds will look to prise Corberan away from West Brom after axing Marsch.

The journalist is aware that the former Olympiacos boss is highly-regarded by Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani and other leading members of the boardroom.

When asked whether he feels Leeds will target Corberan, Jones told GiveMeSport: "Almost certainly, I'd say. I know they've always had an eye on him for this situation and there have been figures at the club who have been extremely impressed by what he's able to bring.

"Now we have got to a situation where they are changing managers, it wouldn't surprise me at all if that is a path they at least explored."

Would Corberan be a good appointment for Leeds?

Corberan's record at West Brom shows that he is a credible candidate as, according to Transfermarkt, he has led the Midlands club to 11 wins from 16 fixtures.

That is exactly the same number of victories Marsch enjoyed at the Leeds helm, but that was over the course of a 37-game reign.

Corberan previously worked at Elland Road between 2017 and 2020, which means he will already know a number of the club's long-serving stars.

That will be beneficial as Leeds look to turn their form around, having gone without a Premier League win since November.

Goal difference is all that separates the Yorkshire giants from the relegation zone, while Bournemouth, Southampton, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest are the only sides to have conceded more top flight goals this season.

Corberan, who has overseen 61 victories during the early stages of his managerial career, could be the perfect option to replace Marsch as Leeds look to stave off dropping into the Championship.
