Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has a “question mark over his head” regarding his long-term future at Stamford Bridge, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The 24-year-old has less than 18 months remaining on his £150,000-per-week contract with Graham Potter’s side.

Chelsea transfer news – Christian Pulisic

Pulisic’s Chelsea future had the potential to come under scrutiny during the January transfer window, but a knee injury sustained in a defeat with Manchester City at the beginning of the month was expected to rule him out of action for around two months, ending any short-term speculation regarding a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle United had been linked with a move for the winger before the turn of the year and the United States star had been expected to depart the west London outfit pre-knee injury.

However, transfer insider Dean Jones previously told GiveMeSport in December that the Magpies were unlikely to make Pulisic their highest-paid player, suggesting that a move to Anfield could have been more likely for the 2019 £58m signing.

And Jacobs believes that Pulisic’s future at Stamford Bridge is still in doubt ahead of the summer window, whilst question marks also remain over Hakim Ziyech and Kalidou Koulibaly.

What has Jacobs said about Chelsea and Pulisic?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Hakim Ziyech is still there because his loan move fell through. I think Christian Pulisic has a question mark over his head. Maybe even Kalidou Koulibaly as well, even though he only joined the club over the course of the summer window. So, outgoings will be a big priority.”

How has Pulisic performed for Chelsea?

Pulisic – who has previously been described as a “magician” by writer journalist Al Butler – has enjoyed mixed fortunes since he arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2019, but was ultimately part of the squad that secured the club’s second Champions League title in 2021.

The 56-time United States international has made 136 appearances for the Blues, hitting the back of the net 26 times and providing 21 assists, suggesting that he has been a solid source of goals over the last three-and-a-half years.

However, having endured a campaign disrupted by injury, the wide man has only been able to earn himself a WhoScored rating of 6.31, ranking him as the 27th-best-performing-player in Potter’s squad which could indicate that a parting of the ways is inevitable in the summer.

Following Chelsea’s January additions of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk and PSV Eindhoven’s Noni Madueke, it seems that Pulisic has been pushed further down the pecking order and a move away from Stamford Bridge may just be what is required to reignite his Premier League career.
