Emre Can scored from the halfway line in Borussia Dortmund's match against Bochum on Wednesday evening.

Dortmund travelled to Vonovia Ruhrstadion for their German Cup clash.

A place in the quarter-finals of the competition was the reward for the winner.

The first half was closely contested but it was the away side who took the lead just before the break through Can.

And what a spectacular yet bizarre goal it was.

Manuel Riemann came racing out of his goal and thought he had booted the ball away from danger.

But his clearance fell to Can, who was located just inside his own half.

The German midfielder chested the ball down and volleyed the ball at goal.

The ball bounced four time before trickling into the back of the net.

Bochum's goalkeeper did everything he could to try and keep the ball out but could not get back just in time.

To make things even worse, he ended up going head first into the goal in his desperate attempt to keep Can's effort out.

Dortmund beat Bochum and book place in German Cup quarter-finals

Dortmund were pegged back in the 64th minute when Kevin Stoger netted from the penalty spot.

But Der BVB reclaimed their lead shortly after through Marco Reus.

Jude Bellingham beat the offside trap and unselfishly rolled the ball across to Reus, who had the easy task of rolling the ball into an empty net from six yards out.

There were no further goals as Dortmund booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
