Paris Saint-Germain showed an incredible lack of urgency to equalise in the final seconds of their French Cup defeat to Marseille.

PSG crashed out of the competition after a 2-1 defeat at Stade Velodrome.

Alexis Sanchez had given the home side the lead with a penalty in the first half. However, before half time, Sergio Ramos equalised for the record 14-time winners.

Ukraine midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi put Marseille back ahead in the 57th minute.

But despite having Lionel Messi and Neymar in their line-up, PSG couldn't force an equaliser.

And they didn't exactly show the urgency to - especially in the final few seconds.

With just 20 seconds remaining of the five minutes added on in injury time, PSG had the ball 30 yards from goal. Marseille were defending deep inside their box in an attempt to hold onto their narrow lead.

But instead of lumping the ball into the box, PSG attempted to be patient. It failed miserably.

Messi passed to Fabian Ruiz, who passed the ball immediately back to the Argentine. Messi passed it back to Ruiz, who gave it back to Messi once again. Messi then found Neymar, who gave it back to Messi. Messi then clipped the ball into the penalty area but it was gathered by goalkeeper, Pau Lopez.

And that was that.

What a miserable final few seconds of the cup final as far as PSG are concerned.

Rothen: Messi's contract extension is bulls**t

We wonder what a certain Jerome Rothen thought of the passage of the play.

Earlier this week, the former PSG star went on an incredible rant about Messi's bulls**t contract renewal.

“Messi’s extension is bulls**t, already in terms of numbers,” he said. "Managing the three is complicated. Afterwards, there is the wage bill. And we saw that PSG is stuck with financial fair play. Because the wage bill has exploded.

“There, you have the opportunity to recover a large sum of money because Messi’s salary is it can allow you to recruit and improve your squad. For all that, it’s a very bad idea to extend Leo Messi.

“In terms of image and what he reflects, I would not understand that Leo Messi wants to prolong the adventure. He makes no effort to put the club forward. He is not going to thank the fans, he lowers his head and goes to the locker room.

“Even on the celebration of his goals, his name is chanted, he never has a nice gesture towards the supporters to thank them. So he does not want to invest more in that. It’s a false good idea.”
