The L.A. Lakers are, perhaps, the most famous franchise in all of basketball, but their fortunes have been a far cry from their legendary status in recent years.

The last three years have been particularly bad, culminating in a record-worst ever season last term that produced only 17 wins.

However, Luke Walton has arrived as the franchise's new head coach and, suddenly, a tinge of optimism is forming around the organisation and their young core.

All the right noises have been coming out of the Purple and Gold with several players commenting on how Walton has changed the atmosphere around the team.

D'Angelo Russell even tweeted out how big things are on the horizon for this outfit, a far departure from the rigid Byron Scott regime of last term.

The Lakers training camp went up another notch yesterday as the roster squared off in one-on-one battles with the winners being the first players to score three buckets.

Julius Randle and this summer's second overall pick, Brandon Ingram, both made it all the way to the final before the rookie fell short to the power forward 3-2.

As you can see in the video above, Randle was not above using bullying tactics on the young rookie to get the job done.
