The hype is well and truly living up to the stacked UFC 205 card, headlined by the lightweight title fight between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor.

Tyron Woodley also defends his welterweight championship against Stephen Thompson, while Karolina Kowalkiewicz aims to dethrone Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the women’s strawweight belt.

The card runs much deeper than that, with Miesha Tate, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Chris Weidman and Frankie Edgar all competing, it makes this perhaps the biggest event in UFC history.

However, despite this historic occasion, there has been some negativity surrounding the show.

Jose Aldo has asked for his release, while numerous stars have displayed their frustration at not being able to secure a bout with McGregor.

It seems this entire event is circling around the Irishman, as UFC president Dana White told MMA Podcast that following his clash with Alvarez, Notorious will have some huge news for mixed martial arts fans, and also shared his frustrations at certain fights not taking place.

He said: “Listen, I battled this thing forever. Not only is it not fair to Jose Aldo, it’s not fair to Khabib and Max Holloway.

“So believe me, I battled with this thing but there are…how can I say this? There are other circumstances involved in this that will be played out after the fight.

“It’s something completely out of the left field, but it’s Conor’s business. It’s not mine, and I’ll let Conor announce it when he’s ready to.”

Now the questions will begin, what is it Conor could be announcing? Surely it has to be huge news that will gauge interest if he’s waiting until after UFC 205 to do it.

If it isn’t Dana’s business, then the assumption will be that it’s a project McGregor is working on outside of the UFC.

But the best guess would be that there’s another fight in the works, and there’s no shortage of opponents.

Aldo could still be a huge factor as he aims to secure his rematch. A third fight with Nate Diaz can’t exactly be ruled out right now, while a super fight with Georges St-Pierre has also been discussed, so it’s certainly something to keep an eye on following the event.

Holloway, Donald Cerrone, Jeremy Stephens; the list can go on and on.

Then again, Floyd Mayweather Jr has decided to emerge once more at an interesting time.
