For those following Arsenal’s Instagram account, you’ve likely had your news feed smothered by posts from the north Londoners today.
As means of celebrating Wenger’s double decade, they have posted a separate photo of the Frenchman of each year of his reign. Moreover, the club has capped off the deluge with a video promising to demonstrate his ‘highs and lows’.
The highs, unsurprisingly, focus on touchline celebrations from trophy wins and the Invincible season. While his labored fist pumps may appear a little awkward, they are gold dust for the majority of Arsenal fans.
So, on that logic, maybe the lows would showcase the 2011 League Cup final defeat to Birmingham City for example. While such touchline meltdowns do of course feature, the impetus is applied to a far more amusing trope.
If ever Wenger is ridiculed for anything, it’s more than likely his ability to zip up his own coat. Whether it be struggling to do up the jacket or even find the zip in the first place, it’s proven a constant issue for the 66-year-old down the years.
Therefore, rather brilliantly, Arsenal have included such moments of hilarity in their compilation video as part of the ‘lows’. Moreover, they rub it in with numerous clips of the Frenchman’s struggles.
Throw in the comedic music and you have a simply brilliant clip, which can be seen below:
Yesterday may have seen a rather formal presentation of a vase, but the anniversary itself has prompted a more jovial commemoration.
Seeing the video, it’s rather refreshing to observe a football club poking fun at itself and in such a tasteful manner. Then again, Wenger might not be best pleased that such focus has been attracted to his zipping skills.
That being said, his consistent sporting of a ‘sleeping bag-like’ coat suggests he’s not a man who’s self-conscious when it comes to his winter clothing.
