Roman Reigns is in an interesting position right now in the WWE, being demoted from the Universal Championship picture has resulted in him defeating Rusev at Clash of Champions to become the new United States Champion.
This has allowed the likes of Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens to battle for the number one title, while Reigns helps elevate the prestige of the secondary belt.
SYMPATHY FROM FANS
Obviously, battling the ‘evil foreigner’ was going to get most of the American fans behind him, but there’s a huge risk that it could go downhill again early in 2017.

That’s if the WWE decide to keep him face, as a heel turn is also expected to take place at some stage next year.
According to Dave Meltzer, Reigns’ position as a mid-card star may only be temporary, as he recently revealed that the WWE are still looking to have Reigns back into the Universal Championship by the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January.
He said: “I know the idea was to keep Roman Reigns out of the world title picture for a while.
“So it’s another way of getting people to like him, and I guess feuding with Rusev is the one way because of the American going against the Russian.
“He’s still their guy, but they know they can’t pull the trigger right now.”
STILL THEIR GUY
So it’s clear that Reigns isn’t going to remain in the position he’s in right now, and that’s a good thing as it gives other stars an opportunity to build themselves in the main event, before Reigns enters the title picture again.
Again, it all comes down to whether he’s a face or a heel by the time the moves takes place. Owens could still be the champion as the heel, but that means Reigns may still get booed by the fans.
On the other hand, if Finn Balor returns and gets his hands on the title, while Rollins is occupied with Triple H, it allows the WWE to finally turn Reigns heel and completely change his fortunes around.
If he’s pushed back into the title picture with great booking and they make it look like he’s deserving, fans may not be entirely against it come 2017.
