The Road to WrestleMania is almost upon us as the Royal Rumble takes centre stage in three months time.

One of the more exciting Pay-Per-Views on the WWE calendar, the Royal Rumble is the perfect way to kick start a year, and it starts the buildup to WrestleMania season.

There has already been a lot of speculation and talk surrounding the 2017 Rumble, with Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin being linked with surprise returns.

Triple H has also teased making an appearance on Twitter by confirming 'you never know who might show up'.

Next year's Rumble will take place on January 29 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and it will be the first one since the brand split that took place earlier this year.

There has already been speculation about how WWE will book the Royal Rumble, given the fact Monday Night Raw and SmackDown LIVE are now two different brands, but according to NoDQ, that won't affect anything.

They are reporting that as things stand, the plan for the Royal Rumble is to still have 30 participants in the actual Royal Rumble match, and it will consist of both Raw superstars and SmackDown LIVE superstars.

Given the fact Raw seemingly has the stronger roster out of the two, this could mean some big names may miss out on making an appearance, especially if they cut it evenly down the middle at 15 superstars from each brand.

WWE have previously done a 40-man Royal Rumble, which could be appropriate to do this time around as well, but as things stand, there are no plans in place to change the usual format.
