Quarterback Cam Newton didn't play during the Carolina Panthers' Monday night contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because he was in concussion protocol for a hit he took the week before against the Atlanta Falcons.

Both teams were able to defeat the NFC Champions without Newton in the game, as the Bucs defeated the Panthers last night by a scoreline of 17-14. Backup quarterback Derek Anderson couldn't find the endzone for Carolina, as he finished with 18 completions on 28 attempts for 278 yards and two interceptions. The Panthers are desperate for Cam to come back.

However, the 2015 NFL MVP did something while in concussion protocol that isn't exactly protecting himself or helping his recovery process, and the pictures of him doing something unsafe while sidelined will annoy Panthers fans.

Newton was snapped by Lisa Salters of ESPN riding around uptown Charlotte yesterday on a trike before the Tampa Bay game in the middle of busy traffic without a helmet. The Panthers' PR department confirmed it was their quarterback in the photo.

As you can see in the photo further down this article, one accidental hit on Cam's trike could have caused him to fall to the floor and bang his head, sidelining him away from action for even longer.

This would have been even more disastrous for the Panthers who are already sitting on a 1-4 record after this week's loss.

Reports have been preaching for the quarterback to be smarter with his safety on the football field, but maybe they need to tell him to be smarter off it as well by giving him a bike helmet and telling him to wear it. What was Cam thinking!?
