Dana White claims Ronda Rousey has always wanted to fight Cris Cyborg

As the rumours of a Ronda Rousey return started to heat up this month, fans were hoping that it would result in a clash with bitter Strikeforce rival, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino.

As we now know, that’s not the case as Rousey’s return fight will be for the women’s bantamweight championship she lost to Holly Holm last year.

Some fellow professionals in the same weight division have shared their disappointment at ‘Rowdy’ jumping the queue ahead of them, and as expected, Cyborg is one of them, despite usually competing at featherweight.

She’s remained vocal on social media and in the press for a while now, it’s clear she doesn’t think she’ll ever secure a fight with Rousey inside of the Octagon, and even the latest round of verbal attacks wasn’t enough to set anything in stone.

While Cyborg believes Rousey doesn’t want to fight her, UFC president Dana White disagrees with her.

Speaking on UFC Tonight on FS1, White highlighted how Rousey’s focus is on Amanda Nunes right now, but the door could be wide open for a fight with Cyborg down the line.

He said: “First of all, Ronda has got to come back, and Ronda’s got to win, win the title. Then I don’t know if she’s going to want to defend it or what she’s going to want to do, but she’s told me she will fight Cyborg.

“As long as I’ve ever known Ronda and talked to her, she was always willing to fight Cyborg. Always. There was never any doubt in my mind that Ronda would eventually fight Cyborg.”

Perhaps the only stumbling block in this super fight ever coming to fruition is the difference in weight.

We’ve already been made aware of the brutal weight cut Cyborg goes through to reach the UFC limit, and it looks doubtful that she’ll go through that torturous procedure again in a fight of this magnitude.

It also looks as if Cyborg has been taking a leaf out of Conor McGregor’s book, she’s stepped up the heat in recent weeks and the Invicta FC featherweight champion has done her absolute best in goading Rousey into a fight, and it’s something White has praised from a business perspective.

He added: “First of all, Cyborg weighs 145 pounds, Ronda weighs 135 pounds. She’s smart, this is the money fight. This is what Conor (McGregor) calls ‘red panty night’.

“When you get the fights with Conor and Ronda, ‘break out the red panties, honey.’

“But yeah it’s a big fight. Amanda Nunes, she’s the champ, she’s holding the belt that Ronda held. Ronda wants her title back. It made all the sense in the world.”

It’s still a fight the world wants to see, the worst thing Cyborg can do is sit back and stop her verbal attacks.

The more adamant she remains and stays in the limelight, the more difficult it will be to avoid this dream fight from happening.
