For all his travels, the 35-year-old has only just embarked on a spell in Europe’s most competitive league with Manchester United. Moreover, it’s no secret that Jose Mourinho played an integral role in Ibrahimovic’s timing of the move.

Mourinho persuasion

Having worked together very successfully at Inter Milan, it was apparent that Ibrahimovic and Mourinho were a formidable partnership.

Furthermore, in the seven years that spanned their separation, the Swede remained very positive about the Special One and full of praise.

Therefore, when the 53-year-old was confirmed as Louis van Gaal’s successor, rumours of Zlatan following suit escalated. This was augmented by the fact, via a typically bravado Instagram post, Ibrahimovic had confirmed his PSG departure.

Unsurprisingly there were numerous clubs interested in securing his signature.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has revealed how Mourinho swiftly persuaded him to opt for the Red Devils. According to the Mirror, he explained: “He didn’t need to talk a lot to convince me.

“It was only enough to call me and say, ‘Listen, I’m waiting for you in Manchester’, and I was coming.

“I know what he wants, his demands and I know what he goes for. He is a winner. I see myself as a winner also. I like to win. I’ll do everything to win. He thinks the same thing.

“We won when we were younger and we will win when we are a little bit older. The more time we spend together, the more time we train together, the better we get.

“At the end, you see the guy who lifts the trophy – you don’t remember the one game, you remember the trophy you lift.”

It’s not hard to ascertain that Ibrahimovic is something of a fan of his boss. Besides, one simple sentence was all it took for him to hop on the plane.

Fine form

In addition, thus far, its proven a fruitful match once again.

On his competitive debut, Ibrahimovic struck the winner in the Community Shield before scoring on his Premier League bow and Old Trafford unveiling. But then again, what else did we expect?

The ex-Inter Milan man has gone off the boil recently, but only in accordance with United’s general wane. After all, you can’t keep the Swede quiet for too long.

Besides, however United’s season plays out, one thing the club won’t lose will be its bond between star striker and manager. Whether they can win trophies as easily as Zlatan suggests though, is far from certain.
