Mauro Icardi’s future at Inter Milan is up in the air after comments made in his new book, Sempre Avanti.

The Argentine striker’s reputation in the eyes of the Inter fans has hit rock bottom after he criticised the club’s influential ‘ultras’.

The die-hard supporters in the Curva Nord even turned up at the striker’s house on Sunday night, after earlier unfurling a banner at the Cagliari match which described the team’s captain as a “vile piece of s***”.

It seemed there was no way back for Icardi, whose career to date has no exactly been controversy-free.

However, it seems that Inter have decided to stick by their skipper, despite calls from the club’s angered fans to offload him.

Inter Milan + Icardi statements

The Italian club published the following statement on their website on Monday afternoon…

Icardi will remain Inter captain

Icardi, who apologised in the statement, will remain the club’s captain.

But it seems he has been fined

However, it appears that Icardi has not escaped a fine for his controversial comments.

Whether this outcome will satisfy the Inter ‘ultras’ remains to be seen - although it’s safe to assume this isn’t the last we hear about this particular story.

Here's why the Inter 'ultras' are angry

For those unaware, here are the written words than have annoyed the Inter fans...

“I am angry because I played so little. The fans start to shout: they call us to come over to their section. I find the courage to face them, along with Guarin,” Icardi wrote in his book, ‘Sempre Avanti’ which was released this week.

“As I get closer, I receive insults and abuse of every kind. Attached to the netting is a kid who calls me: he wants my shirt.

“Considering his age, he could be my son: I take off my shirt and shorts and throw them to him, as a gift. This kid is in seventh heaven and I am pleased to see him so happy.

“A head of the ultras jumps on him to take away the shirt and throws it back at me. This is when I start insulting him: ‘Piece of ****, you are acting all arrogant with a little kid to show off to the rest of the curva [Inter Milan utras]? Do you think you’re hard?’

“In the locker room I am acclaimed as a hero, because nobody had ever faced off that way with one of the fan leaders.”
