Robin van Persie is back in Manchester as Fenerbahce take on his former club, United, in the Europa League group stages at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman, who spent three years with the Red Devils, has told reporters that it feels like he’s coming ‘home’.

And in Fener’s pre-match press conference, it certainly looked like the relaxed Van Persie was back at home.

The 33-year-old conducted a jovial interview with reporters and finished the press conference by hopping into a journalist’s chair and asking his current boss, Dick Advocaat, a question.

Van Persie asks Advocaat a question

Van Persie said: “Last question, coach. Am I starting?”

The press room burst into laughter - surprise, surprise - but Advocaat remained stony-faced.

He then saw the funny side, though, and replied by saying: “Good question. I will give you the answer [on Thursday].”

Van Persie looking forward to the match

Van Persie, who has scored one goal in five league appearances for Fener, is expected to start at Old Trafford - although he did play 90 minutes against Alanyaspor last weekend.

"It will be a special occasion and a special game for me,” Van Persie told MUTV, per the Mirror.

"I know Manchester United want to be in the Champions League, but it's how it is now and for me it is a very special group in the Europa League [his first club, Holland's Feyenoord, are also in the section].

"I'm now playing for Fenerbahce and I want to do well for my team, but of course it will be special to play 'at home' in a great stadium with great fans against a great team.

"It will be tough for us. United are the favourites, but you never know what will happen."
