There is a lot of competition for the final roster spot with the L.A. Lakers - something that has not happened for a few seasons.

The franchise invited Metta World Peace to their training camp due to the influence the 36-year-old had on the younger players throughout 2015/16, but he may not make the final 15 this time around.

Chinese star Yi Jianlian and fellow former lottery pick Thomas Robinson seem to be ahead of World Peace, but that does not mean the Lakers don't have a plan for him.

According to reports, the franchise is keen to offer him a position as an assistant coach due to his success with the likes of D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. last season.

However, there is a sense World Peace would like to continue to play and would have to leave the Staples Center to achieve that aim.

The Lakers have until Monday to sort out their roster, and it will be interesting to see what their - and Metta's - final decision is.
