When you watch Gianluigi Donnarumma play, it’s so easy to forget that he’s just 17 years old - and not just because he’s already 6ft 5in tall.
The AC Milan goalkeeper has regularly produced performances that defy his tender age since making his Serie A debut, at the age of 16 years and eight months, back in October 2015.
Donnarumma is widely regarded in Italy as the natural heir for Gianluigi Buffon, arguably the greatest ‘keeper of all time, and while he still has an awful long way to go before he can be considered as Buffon’s true successor, he’s certainly on the right path.
The teenager made headlines in August with a match-winning penalty save against Torino.
Milan conceded a spot-kick in the sixth minute of stoppage time but the ever-reliable Donnarumma ensured all three points went to the Rossoneri thanks to his superb stop.
Donnarumma looks the real deal
He then went viral again at the weekend with some more last-minute heroics, this time against Buffon’s Juventus.
Sami Khedira’s long-range strike was destined for the top corner of the net, but Donnarumma’s acrobatic save earned a precious three points for Milan over the team that has dominated Italian football for the past four seasons.
It’s been a while, but Milan appear to have a potential world-class player in their ranks.
