Mesut Ozil started it all a few seasons ago, Dimitri Payet took things to the next level last weekend but, now, Borussia Dortmund youngster Felix Passlack has set a new standard for the new trend in footballer's pre-game warmups - doing keepy-ups with chewing gum.

Only last week, we saw West Ham's Payet show off to the TV cameras by spitting out the piece of chewing gum he had been eating and, somehow, keeping it off the ground with his feet before catching it back in his mouth.

It sounds pretty gross but is actually pretty impressive to see the close control on display. However, neither Ozil or Payet can compete with 18-year-old Dortmund full-back Passlack. Scroll down this article to see his prolonged effort...

Set to make only his third ever appearance for the Bundesliga giants, you might think Passlack would have been a little nervous before Dortmund's DFP Pokal cup tie against Union Berlin on Wednesday night.

That didn't seem to be the case, however, judging by the way he casually showed off his skills before kick off.

The difference between his effort and those of Ozil, Payet and co.? The fact the teenage left-back was able to keep the chewing gum under control despite a botched attempt to catch it in his mouth the first time around...

Passlack helped a second-string Dortmund lineup progress past Berlin on penalties and, while his performance in the game will be more important for his long-term future at the club, it is the above video that has gone viral.

The question now is, how do you think it matches up against other greats of the genre?

Exhibit A from Ozil...

And last week's effort from Payet...
