Lionel Messi involved in post-match altercation after Manchester City loss

For a moment during Barcelona’s Champions League clash against Manchester City, it looked as though Lionel Messi would be the difference once again.

Two weeks ago, the Argentine scored a hat-trick as Luis Enrique’s romped to a 4-0 victory against Pep Guardiola's team.

And, after Barcelona’s brilliant counter-attack which was finished off by Messi in the first-half, it seemed as though it was going to be a similar story at the Etihad.

However, that’s as good as it got for Messi and co. as City equalised before half-time and then dominating after the break.

Ilkay Gundogan grabbed the leveller before the interval before Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick put them 2-1 ahead. Gundogan then scored again to ensure the three points.

It was certainly a frustrating evening for the Barcelona players, who now face a battle with City to finish top of their group.

In fact, it was so frustrating that Messi allowed his temper to get the better of him. Rarely do you see him appear frustrated but, according to Marca, he couldn’t help himself at full-time on Tuesday night.

That’s because he was involved in a post-match altercation which ended up with him calling one unnamed City player ‘stupid.’

The report claims that Barcelona match-day delegate Carles Naval and Sergio Aguero helped calm everyone down and nothing further was reported.

It’s not the first time a Barcelona player has got frustrated by an opponent after a match this week. Neymar was caught on camera pushing an opponent down the stairs at the Camp Nou following their 1-0 victory over Granada on Saturday.

With Neymar and Messi both allowing their frustrations to get the better of them, it’s over to Luis Suarez to be the next one to lose his cool.

We all know how that ends.
