Though he might be Zinedine Zidane’s son, Luca Zidane isn’t expected to perform moments of magic every single game.
But it would be nice if he gave a hint that he is the offspring of one of football’s finest players.
Luca, who is a goalkeeper for Real Madrid’s youth team, has made a string of errors in his fledgling career. Enough to make you wonder whether he would even be playing for Madrid if his father wasn’t the manager of the senior team.
In September, he attempted to dribble out of his goal against Borussia Dortmund. It went about as well as can be expected.
He messed up against Real Sociedad in August, gifting them a goal with a terrible pass.
The younger Zidane also had an embarrassing moment against Paris Saint-Germain in April, turning his back on a shot.
All of those three incidents can be seen further down the page.
Hilarious error vs Legia
It might be time for Luca to consider changing position. His dad could certainly teach him a thing or two about playing in midfield.
The 18-year-old’s latest error came today against Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Youth League.
There were seconds remaining in stoppage time, with Los Blancos leading 2-0, when a Legia player sent in a harmless cross.
It’s at this point when Zidane Sr. should turn off his television.
Instead of attempting to catch the ball, Luca inexplicably tries to punch it away from his goal. He fails to make decent contact, however, and the ball launches skywards.
It loops over the young France international and lands on the goal line. Luca tries desperately to pluck it away but the topspin carries the ball into the net.
Hilarious is an understatement.
