Everybody has their own unique story of how they got into the NBA. For some, it was catching a glimpse of Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan or LeBron James and instantly falling in love with their effortless athleticism.
For others, picking up a basketball as a child piqued their interest in a sport that is slowly making its way into popular culture in the UK, and for many, it was simply seeing highlight reels of three-pointers and ferocious slam dunks.
There's so much to enjoy about the NBA; from the larger than life characters, the off-field cultural influences and the unrivalled joy/despair of a game-winning shot.
The NBA wants to know exactly what made you fall in love with the game. The reward? For British star Luol Deng it was his passion and drive to be the best. From the moment he joined local London club the Brixton Topcats, the now L.A. Lakers forward had his eyes set on making it to the big league.
The 31-year-old said: “I fell in love with the game of basketball back when I was growing up in the U.K. I joined the Brixton Topcats and was coached by Jimmy Rogers who is still there now. I started playing for him and with my friends and we would also play in camps.
"I enjoyed playing with my friends; we were inspired and all had a dream to be in the NBA and to be the best that we could be.
"We played and worked hard, we pushed ourselves but also had fun. Every day you would get up in the morning and you looked forward to going to the gym, dribbling all day, shooting all day, seeing how much better your jump shot got. But it was all just the enjoyment that we got from playing and being there together."
