Matt Le Tissier names nine Manchester United players that should be sold

After he spent almost £150 million in the summer transfer window, you’d think Jose Mourinho would be pretty happy with his Manchester United squad.

However, just a few months into the season United find themselves eight points adrift in the league table and with a fight to qualify from their Europa League group.

After their latest defeat - a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fenerbahce - many question marks were raised about their current squad.

BT pundits - and former United players - Paul Scholes and Michael Owen tore into numerous players stating that they weren’t good enough to wear the United shirt.

And Sky Sports' Matt Le Tissier has followed suit by naming the players that Mourinho should ‘let go’.

The Southampton legend went through each player in the squad, stating whether they should stay or leave in the upcoming windows.

A massive nine players would get the chop if Le Tissier was in charge, while he would keep captain Wayne Rooney at the club.

Here is who he would let go, and why:

Phil Jones - LET GO

“I think Manchester United need to let Phil Jones go, he's just too injury-prone to rely on.”

Marcos Rojo - LET GO

“Marcos Rojo just hasn't got the quality that Manchester United are used to. Let him go.”

Matteo Darmian - LET GO

“Matteo Darmian is another one who has failed to live up to his price tag, so I'd probably let him go.”

Ashley Young - LET GO

“I don't think Ashley Young has contributed enough. You want more from a Manchester United winger than just stopping the opposition full-back.”

Marouane Fellaini - LET GO

“I think Manchester United need more quality in their midfield if they're going to return to the glory days. Marouane Fellaini doesn't fit the bill”

Morgan Schneiderlin - LET GO

“I think they should let Morgan Schneiderlin come back to Southampton! He was one of the Premier League's best players in that role at Saints but it hasn't worked out for him at United.”

Bastian Schweinsteiger - LET GO

“I thought it was a strange one when they signed Bastian Schweinsteiger. They didn't need somebody like him with the injuries he's had, but that's not to say he's not a very good player.”

Memphis Depay - LET GO

“Again I don't think Memphis Depay has delivered when he's had the chances. Time for him to go.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - LET GO AT END OF SEASON

“I’d say keep if he wasn't 35 but Zlatan Ibrahimovic has only got this season in him and I'd let him go at the end of it.”

Whether Mourinho will listen to Le Tissier's advice is very doubtful. However, ever since taking over, the Portuguese boss has been only too keen to reiterate that this isn't his United squad and he is looking to make wholesale changes in the upcoming transfer window.

These nine players could well be plying their trade elsewhere this time next year if they don't make an impact in the coming weeks and months.
