Several months on from leaving Liverpool and Mario Balotelli isn’t fairing too badly at Nice. In fact, he’s performing very well indeed.
The Italian striker has rediscovered his confidence, love for the game and goalscoring touch since joining the French club on a free transfer in the summer.
Balotelli, who would later describe the moment he signed for Liverpool as the “worst mistake” of his life, has scored seven goals in his first seven appearances for Nice and is in the process of silencing his many critics.
The 26-year-old also recently admitted that neither Brendan Rodgers nor Jurgen Klopp made a good impression on him during his ill-fated spell at Anfield.
And one of Balotelli’s former Liverpool teammates is also having a few problems with the latter this season.
Balotelli wants Sakho to join him at Nice
Mamadou Sakho fell out with Klopp in the summer and hasn’t played all season as a result.
Reports in the press on Sunday morning - per the Mirror - claim that Sakho is likely to leave Anfield in the summer, with Leicester City and West Ham among the club’s battling to secure his signature.
However, Balotelli wants the France international to quit England and join him at Nice.
“I've talked to him,” Balotelli told Telefoot, per French football writer Matt Spiro. “What a waste! He should leave Liverpool. He should come here.”
It's not been a good few months for Sakho
Sakho might be tempted to return to his home country after a traumatic few months.
He missed the Europa League final and the European Championships gayer UEFA banned him for failing a doping test.
The 26-year-old was later cleared but then fell out with Klopp in pre-season after arriving late for a flight taking the squad to the United States.
Klopp expressed concerns about the centre-back’s attitude and packed him back off to Merseyside.
And following the arrival of Joel Matip, it seems Sakho has now been deemed surplus to requirements.
