Football News

By the time you read this, Donald Trump will probably have been confirmed as the winner of the 2016 US Presidential Election.

Despite what the polls and bookmakers believed earlier this week, the Republican nominee appears to have upset the odds and is expected to be sworn in as the 25th President of the United States in January.

Hilary Clinton was the favourite but, to the disbelief and horror of many, it seems she has been defeated. Trump, despite everything he’s said and done both in the past and throughout this bitter election campaign, will be Barack Obama’s successor in the White House.

People on the internet have had a busy night creating football-related memes and gifs which perfectly describe the situation better than words can.

Footballers and ex-footballers, meanwhile, are beginning to voice their opinions on social media.

As you can see, football fans are comparing Clinton to Steven Gerrard and Trump to Demba Ba, in reference to that unforgettable moment during Liverpool 0-2 Chelsea back in April 2014.

They’re also comparing the Democrat nominee, who was optimistic of becoming the first female president in US history, to Gonzalo Higuain (presumably because of his tendency to miss gilt-edged chances in the biggest matches).
