With Chile fifth in the South American 2018 World Cup qualifying group, Alexis Sanchez joined up with his national team but played no part in their 0-0 draw with third-placed Colombia on Thursday.

The Arsenal forward, who is his country's joint-second all-time top goalscorer, suffered a muscle injury on international duty at the start of the week but the latest update on his situation is good news for the 27-year-old.

After undergoing treatment and being evaluated by the Chilean team's medical staff, as you can see in the image below which emerged on Saturday morning, he is back in training and it's believed that he's in line to recover for Tuesday, when Chile welcome Uruguay to Santiago.

Arsenal fans are understandably concerned, not only because he is the club's leading scorer this season, but also because Alexis missed two months of the last campaign with a hamstring injury.

There is no doubt that everyone associated with Arsenal, from supporters to manager Arsene Wenger, will hope that Sanchez returns to the Emirates Stadium injury-free and will be fit and available selection for this Saturday's huge trip to face Manchester United.

The Gunners are currently two places and six points ahead of United in the table, however they haven't won at Old Trafford in a decade and have never beaten a side managed by Jose Mourinho in the Premier League.

Fans react on Twitter

As you would expect, Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter in numbers to express their opinion on Sanchez's latest injury update, some of which you can see below:
