Two of Britain’s finest boxers may go head-to-head for the first time in the not too distant future.

Eddie Hearn, the English boxing promoter and managing director of his father’s business Matchroom Sport announced earlier that Kell Brook wants Amir Khan in the ring for his next match.

Brook has announced that he will be stepping down to welterweight, following his defeat in the his middleweight world title fight with Gennady Golovkin.

This fight has been eagerly anticipated as it is two of Britain’s finest boxers potentially going head-to-head.

"It's one of the biggest fights in Britain and now a huge fight in world boxing," Hearn told Sky Sports.

Hearn claimed it would take merely “ten minutes” to organise what would be the biggest fight of the year.

"We're a million per cent ready to take that fight. I've spoken to Amir and I believe that fight will happen. We want it next.

"If Amir is ready to take that fight next, let's just get it on. We could do a deal in 10 minutes in a room, we really can.”

Hearn seemed explicitly optimistic and incredibly excited by the prospect of Khan and Brook entering the ring.

Some are suggesting that Khan may want another big-name fight in America before the domestic battle in order to prepare for the occasion.

"I think Amir wants to have another fight and build towards that fight," Hearn added.

"We're easy, but let's make these fights the British fight fans want, and Brook-Khan is just one we're dying for."
