The ridiculous reason why Real Madrid could fine Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo added to an already fantastic 2016 on a personal level when he signed a new deal with Real Madrid to keep him at the Bernabeu until June 2021.

He won the Champions League and Euro 2016 earlier this year and, as his contract extension was confirmed, the 31-year-old claimed that he can continue playing for another ten years.

Whilst Real are undoubtedly delighted to have tied their main man down to a fresh, long-term agreement, something which Cristiano did at the press conference for the renewal may force the club to fine him.

Something noticeable from the presentation was that the former Manchester United winger sported a pair of glasses as he penned a new deal with the European giants.

Per The Mirror, reports in Spain have claimed that the Portugal captain was wearing the glasses not to aid his vision, but simply because, as Nike's premier athlete, he wanted to do one of his many sponsors a favour.

Nike vs Adidas

However, Madrid, whose kits are sponsored by German manufacturer Adidas, are a strictly Adidas club and the hierachy weren't too pleased when Real's all-time top goalscorer unnecessarily showcased their biggest rivals at such a big and historic announcement.

Los Blancos' loyalty to Adidas is such that they actively ban any Nike products at club events, and as a result of Ronaldo's breach of discipline, they could be set to hand the global superstar a fine.

It's fair to say that any prospective fine won't bother the three-time Ballon d'Or winner too much, as he'll most certainly be able to afford anything Real throw his way since his new contract kept his wages close to a whopping £365,000 per week.
