Luke Shaw's season started off well, the England left back returning from a lengthy injury lay off to impress in the first few weeks of the campaign.

However, in recent times, the Manchester United star has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons after being called out by Jose Mourinho on more than one occasion.

The latest, after the Red Devils' 3-1 win over Swansea City earlier this month, because he apparently refused to play through pain in his rehabilitated knee.

Perhaps Shaw had his manager's criticism in mind, then, when he posted a video to his official Twitter account which showed him "ticking over" on his weekend off with a gym workout.

Indeed, with Mourinho supposedly unimpressed with the defender's work ethic since in recent weeks, it certainly seems like Shaw was trying to send a not so subtle message to the Portuguese manager.

However, judging by some of the responses from United fans to the above video, Shaw may have misjudged just how much support he has amongst the Red Devils fan base.

Still only 21-years-old, Shaw undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him. However, the past 18 months or so have certainly been difficult for the former Southampton man.

Red Devils fans may be a little frustrated with him right now, but there is no doubt that they will be hoping he can turn around his fortunes over the next few weeks and months.

With sensational rumours linking him to Liverpool, the last thing they would want to do would be to hound Shaw out of the club and into the hands of their fiercest rivals.

As for changing Mourinho's mind? The best way to do that would probably be to impress in training rather than show off that you are doing some exercises in your garage.
