It's very common in WWE for superstars to leave and come back, only to leave and then come back once again.

There are plenty of examples of WWE superstars leaving the company, only to return a few years down the line. There are also plenty of examples of WWE superstars making numerous returns and departures.

The 45-year-old is considered a big fan favourite within the WWE Universe, and he always gets a good reception when he returns to the squared circle, but he hasn't been seen for a few years now.

In fact, his last appearance on WWE TV came back in 2014, over two years ago.

With the WWE Draft and the brand split taking place this year, it was thought that the highflyer would return this year to help beef out the roster a little bit, with SmackDown LIVE needing some big names, but that never came to fruition.

It has now also emerged that Van Dam was linked with returning to WWE in 2015, but once again, that never happened.

Speaking in a recent interview, Van Dam has opened up about why he didn't return to the squared circle late last year, and he stated that it was because a deal couldn't be agreed.

Many people have claimed he rejected a return to WWE, but he has set the record straight by admitting it was because the right deal couldn't be agreed to.

He told SI.com: “I didn’t turn it down. That is somebody’s twist on my words. We weren’t able to come to an agreement.

"I was super busy and it wasn’t a good time for me. Because of that, it would have taken more for it to be worth my while than it would have been for them, so we just didn’t do it.”
