There’s a reason Fernando Torres believes Jan Oblak is the best goalkeeper in the world.
Last month the Spaniard posted an image of himself with Oblak to his Instagram page, accompanied with a complementary caption.
“Off to Russia with the best goalkeeper in the world Jan Oblak #forzaatleti,” Torres wrote. And Torres knows about goalkeepers - his job is to score past them.

Oblak has established himself as one of Europe’s elite shot-stopper for Atletico Madrid, earning a place in the La Liga Team of the Season last year for his superlative displays between the sticks.
Cristiano Ronaldo realised just how good the 23-year-old is early on in this evening’s Madrid derby.
Although Ronaldo would go on to score a deflected free-kick past Oblak, the Slovenian denied him with a quite magnificent stop from the Portuguese’s header.
If you questioned whether the ball had crossed the line, replays showed that it hadn’t.
Twitter went mental
Ronaldo beat Oblak eventually
Yet Atlet’s ‘keeper could do nothing about Ronaldo’s free-kick. From 25 yards out, Ronaldo struck the ball straight into the wall only to see if ricochet through and past the wrong-footed Oblak
It was incredibly harsh on Oblak, but they all count.
Atleti can ill-afford to lose
A win for Real Madrid will see them extend their lead at the top of La Liga to four points following Barcelona’s draw at home to Malaga.
Atletico can do Barca a favour by securing all three points. Should Diego Simeone’s side lose, however, they will fall nine points behind their Madrid rivals.
