Goldberg reportedly destroyed Brock Lesnar to set up Royal Rumble appearance

Perhaps the biggest surprise to come from the Survivor Series event on Sunday night is that Goldberg managed to make a successful return to the WWE, defeating Brock Lesnar in convincing fashion to leave Toronto as the victor.

It took the former World Heavyweight Champion only 85 seconds to slay The Beast, hitting two Spears and one Jackhammer, which left the crowd stunned.

The common assumption was that Lesnar would go on to victimise Goldberg on his return, and avenge the loss he suffered 12 years ago at WrestleMania XX.

However, quite the opposite happened, and the reaction from the shocked crowd showed that nobody expected it to happen, certainly not that quickly, and it now takes Goldberg 2-0 against Lesnar.

Although, there seems to be a reason as to why the WWE booked Goldberg to destroy Lesnar with relative ease.

While fans will be hoping for a rematch so Lesnar can dismantle him to get a win on the board, the match was booked this way to set up a future match for Goldberg – although his next outing in the ring may not be against The Beast.

Pro Wrestling Sheet are reporting that Goldberg signed a new deal with the company earlier this week, which means he could be appearing in the Royal Rumble match in January.

Defeating Lesnar in that manner means he’s looked at as a massive threat in San Antonio, making him an early favourite in the match, and potentially even setting up a final match at WrestleMania.

If the match went the opposite way and Goldberg was going to be a part of the contest in San Antonio, then perhaps he wouldn’t be looked at as a serious threat, or that his appearance wouldn't bring more excitement.

With this result, it certainly opens up more possibilities for both men; should they ever have another match.
