Paris Saint-Germain will not be allowed to select Serge Aurier for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after the Ivory Coast international was banned from entering the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

In a statement on their official website, PSG confirmed Aurier was initially granted an entry visa into the UK last month.

However, that visa was withdrawn on November 16 by British authorities.

PSG vented their anger via their website, describing the situation as “incomprehensible”.

“In a letter to the English Federation, UEFA has also unambiguously supported the club's approach, in order to ensure the fairness of its competitions.

“The club also regrets that the formal response of the British authorities had been notified that on Tuesday at 14:00 French time, so that all steps had been taken for six days to resolve the situation of our player in a timeframe that would allow him to go to London with his teammates.

“Paris Saint-Germain believes that this extremely late response is assimilated to a lack of respect to the club.”

PSG have also called on their fans to be “more united than ever” following this decision which they clearly feel is unjust.

The reason Aurier is banned from the UK

But why has Aurier been barred from entering the UK?

Well, it all relates to a recent court case.

The 23-year-old went on trial in September for an alleged assault on a police officer and was handed a suspended two-month prison sentence with community service.

However, the right-back and his lawyer, Claire Boutard de la Combe, have decided to appeal the decision.

“We’re appealing. Mr Aurier contests the findings. He’s not guilty and must be acquitted,” De la Combe was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

Aurier also hit the headlines for controversial reasons back in February when he was suspended by the French club after a video emerged online of the player insulting his manager and teammates.
