Antonio Conte surprised by Jose Mourinho's judgement of Chelsea player

This time last season, Chelsea were at the wrong end of the table just months after becoming Premier League champions.

Every week, you believed that Jose Mourinho would turn the tide and the Blues would start winning again. But it didn’t happen and the ’Special One’ was soon sacked for the second time at Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte was appointed to pick up the pieces this summer and the Italian is doing just that.

After 12 matches, Conte’s side sit top of the Premier League and look a completely different team from 12 months ago.

While the performances of stars like Eden Hazard and Diego Costa are the polar opposite from last campaign, there’s one player that’s impressing that wasn’t even used by Mourinho.

That man is Victor Moses.

Conte has been using the Nigerian on the right side of a midfield four and Chelsea haven’t conceded in the six matches that he’s started in the league.

Moses arrived in west London from Wigan Athletic for £9 million back in 2012 and played 43 appearances in all competitions under both Roberto di Matteo and Rafa Benitez in the following season.

However, under Mourinho, he failed to make a single competitive appearance in three seasons.

The Portuguese boss loaned Moses out to Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham, before Conte has allowed him to shine.

And Conte has criticised his predecessor for not seeing Moses’ qualities.

“I could see his potential from the first days of the summer training camp,” said Conte.

“Moses has important qualities: technique, physical strength, the ability to cover 70m of the pitch.

“I find it incredible that someone like him has been underestimated.”

Of course, Moses isn’t - and certainly won’t be - the last player that Mourinho has decided he just doesn’t fancy.

Already at Manchester United, Mourinho has seemingly decided that there are numerous players he doesn’t believe fit into his plans with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Henrikh Mkhitaryan finding first-team football hard to come by.

Maybe they should go and play under Conte as he seems to be able to get the best out of players Mourinho refuses to play.
